The watch fairs at the start of each year that best monitor watch trends for the year to come. The two main watch fairs Basel and SIHH both held in Switzerland saw the continued growth of the ultra thin watch markets; with brands being driven to innovate to advance the craft of high watchmaking.
This crosses several categories from Quartz watches, Automatic watches to mechanical watches. Quartz watches are by nature far easiest to make super thin as run by a battery simply have far less parts making it a simpler process to make thin. One of the leaders within this sector has been Rado with their True Thinline Collections, with a new colour for 2018. Their offering in Automatic this season is the DiaMaster Petite Seconde Automatic. This is an automated mechanical so although it is for more complex than the Thinline, the real showstoppers this season were the totally manual mechanical watches.
